Getting With it on the Web

OK, I'm multi-tasking -- writing this while listening to the editor of a weekly newspaper near Boston talk about what she's done to make her Web site a lively place for readers, every day. She is speaking as part of a conference call provided by a national organization, Suburban Newspapers of America, for editors of small newspapers. "Small staff can make a big Web presence," is the name of the session. Although newspaper companies have yet to figure out how to make money off the Web, and time to do so is running out, the possibilities for the Web, being interactive, lively and timely, are exciting. It's a challenge that needs to be addressed. It requires a change in mindset of how the news is approached, and even what is considered news and who provides the news.
